CozyZip roadmap

Future priorities for archive search, selective extraction, integrity checks and consistent app, Terminal and MCP tools.

We’re building CozyZip around clear archive previews, useful risk explanations and careful handling of your files. Our first release focuses on making those everyday tasks dependable.

This roadmap describes our intended direction after that release. Features and priorities may change as we learn from people using CozyZip; dates and version numbers are not committed yet.

Next priorities

Find and extract what you need

Search archive entries and extract selected files or folders, with the same path checks and risk explanations used by the main extraction flow.

Check archives and shared files

Test archive integrity and generate or compare checksums, with clear results in the app and structured results for scripts and AI tools.

Make repeated work easier

Save reusable creation/extraction presets and process batches of archives with useful progress, cancellation and per-job results.

Keep the app, command line and MCP consistent

New archive operations should use the same underlying behaviour across the Mac app, command line and local MCP tools. We want consistent options, understandable errors and predictable handling of files, passwords and permissions.

Exploring for later updates

  • Adding, removing and renaming entries in existing archives, with a workflow that preserves the original if an operation fails or is cancelled.
  • Richer file previews and Finder Quick Look support.
  • Shortcuts and other macOS workflow integrations.
  • Additional creation formats and split archives where we can support them reliably.

macOS-specific integrations will use the shared archive capabilities where applicable; they do not need an identical interface in every tool.

What stays important

  • Archive processing stays on your Mac.
  • Risk explanations are useful context, not a malware scan or a guarantee of safety.
  • Path traversal and unsafe output must remain blocked across every interface.
  • Existing files must be protected when work fails or is cancelled.
  • Personal and commercial licences provide the same archive features; they differ in permitted use. Both include future CozyZip updates under the announced lifetime offer.
